In-Home Sharp Debridement
Sharp debridement is one of the most effective ways to move a stalled wound back toward healing. When dead, damaged, or infected tissue stays on a wound bed, it blocks new tissue from forming, hides infection, and triggers chronic inflammation that prevents closure. Removing that tissue allows healthy skin and granulation tissue to grow.
At Emet Mobile Wound Care, we perform sharp debridement directly in the patient's home, skilled nursing facility, or assisted living residence — eliminating the need for stressful trips to a clinic or wound center.
Sharp debridement is the precise removal of nonviable tissue using sterile instruments such as a scalpel, curette, or surgical scissors. Performed by a trained, certified provider, it is selective — meaning healthy tissue is preserved while only the damaged tissue is removed. This is different from autolytic or enzymatic debridement, which work more slowly through dressings or topical agents.
Sharp debridement is often used for:
01 - What Sharp Debridement Involves
- Diabetic foot ulcers with calloused or necrotic edges
- Pressure injuries with slough or eschar
- Venous leg ulcers covered in fibrinous tissue
- Chronic wounds that have stopped progressing
- Post-surgical wounds with devitalized tissue
02 - What to Expect During a Visit
Your nurse practitioner will assess the wound, photograph and measure it for documentation, and discuss the plan with you and your caregiver before any procedure. Local anesthetic is used when needed to keep the procedure comfortable. After debridement, the wound is cleansed, dressed with the most appropriate advanced dressing, and a follow-up visit is scheduled.
Most patients tolerate the procedure well and notice meaningful progress within just a few visits.
03 - Why Choose In-Home Debridement?
Mobile wound care removes the biggest barrier to consistent treatment: getting to the appointment. For patients with limited mobility, chronic illness, or transportation challenges, having a certified provider come to the home means treatment actually happens on schedule — and that consistency is what drives healing.
Care delivered where the patient lives — home, skilled nursing, or assisted living.
