MIST Therapy — Non-Contact Ultrasound for Wound Healing

MIST Therapy is a non-contact, low-frequency ultrasound treatment that uses a fine saline mist to deliver gentle ultrasonic energy directly to the wound bed. The mist carries the ultrasound waves through to the tissue without ever touching the wound itself — making it one of the most patient-friendly advanced therapies available.

For patients with chronic, painful, or stalled wounds, MIST Therapy can help restart the healing process when traditional dressings alone aren't enough.

How It Works

Ultrasound, carried by a gentle mist

The device produces a continuous mist of sterile saline that is energized by low-frequency ultrasound waves. As the mist passes over the wound, the ultrasonic energy is transferred to the tissue beneath. This stimulates cellular activity, helps disrupt biofilm (a protective layer that bacteria form on chronic wounds), and supports the body's natural healing response.

Treatments are typically brief — often 3 to 5 minutes per wound — and most patients describe the sensation as a cool, gentle mist with no pain.

Conditions That May Benefit

MIST Therapy is FDA-cleared for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds, including:

Diabetic foot ulcers

Including chronic, slow-healing ulcers in patients with neuropathy or vascular changes.

Venous stasis ulcers

Often paired with compression therapy to address the underlying venous cause.

Pressure injuries

Useful at multiple stages, especially when biofilm is suspected.

Post-surgical wounds

Supports healing in incisions that have opened or stalled.

Burns & traumatic wounds

Gentle enough for fragile tissue, with no physical contact.

Biofilm-complicated wounds

Including chronic, slow-healing ulcers in patients with neuropathy or vascular changes.

What Makes MIST Different

Unlike sharp debridement, MIST Therapy never makes physical contact with the wound. There is no cutting, scraping, or pressure on the tissue. That makes it especially valuable for patients with painful wounds, fragile skin, or those who can't tolerate more invasive procedures. It also pairs well with other treatments — many patients receive MIST alongside debridement, advanced dressings, or compression therapy as part of a comprehensive plan.

Mobile MIST Therapy at Home

Because Emet Mobile Wound Care brings MIST Therapy directly to the patient's residence, there is no travel, no waiting room, and no disruption to daily routine. Treatment fits into the patient's life — not the other way around.
